*Therapy and self-help are major factors in recovery and treatment of mental disorders. Every person has an individualized recovery plan and needs treatment that is right for them.
*Stigma surrounding mental disorders only discourages people from seeking help. People are afraid to get treatment and therapy when the only discussion surrounding it is negative.
*According the the World Health Organization, there are five factors that contribute to the lack of care for mental illness patients. They are the absence of mental health from the public health agenda and the implications for funding; the current organization of mental health services; the lack of integration within primary care; the inadequate human resources for mental health; and the lack of public mental health leadership.
*Between 25 percent and 40 percent of all Americans with mental illness will at some point pass through the criminal justice system. Stigma leads to prejudice and discrimination and poor treatment of those with mental illness.

Stigma leads to fear, mistrust, and violence against people living with mental illness and their families and causes family and friends to turn their backs on people with mental illness.
